Kim Elleen – Moderator + FGIDC Board
Designer Kim Elleen (pronounced el-LEEN), an attorney and journalist by education and trade, launched her own clothing design business Kim Elleen Collection in 2010 focused on busy women like herself. The hallmarks of her label are her custom-created colorful bold prints and classic-yet-modern silhouettes, all comfortable enough for a busy lifestyle, from casual wear to formal occasions. Her entire collection is sourced in the United States. Her designs have been featured in fashion shows, magazines including Brides, Veux, Imagine, Luxe, Northern Virginia Magazine, Bliss and Façon Magazine and worn on red carpets from New York to Los Angeles. Kim also works a journalist and political and legal analyst.
Rosalie Ferris – Panelist
Rosalie hails from Canada originally and has had the good fortune to live in a number of countries before landing in Washington, DC. She started sewing at a very young age and has always had a passion both for fashion and for creating things. Rosalie holds an honours degree in Costume Studies from Dalhousie University where she developed her skills in pattern drafting, technical sewing, historical dress, textile studies and tailoring. She also holds a Certificate in Fashion Retail Buying from Toronto’s George Brown College. Post-university she headed up the production department for a DC sewing studio, taught advanced sewing lessons, designed costumes for theatre productions, exhibited her work locally and sewed in the costume department at the Washington National Opera. Rosalie established her own business, Pattern Sample Sew, in early 2014. She is thrilled to be part of DC’s growing creative entrepreneurial community.
You can find Rosalie most days at her custom cutting table or at one of the industrial sewing machines in her light-filled studio overlooking the tracks at Off the Beaten Track Warehouse in the Langdon neighbourhood of NE DC.
Zoe Zeldman – Panelist
Zoe Feldman Design, Inc. is a boutique Washington, DC based interior design firm. Zoe has been decorating homes along the East Coast for over 10 years. An accomplished freelance writer and TV personality, Zoe has been published in several national websites and appeared on multiple television shows. Zoe was an ivillage Home and Garden expert writing pieces on decorating and entertaining and appearing as a guest “ivillage expert” on the accompanying television show, ivillage LIVE. Most notably, she has appeared as a guest decorator on NBC’s Today Show. In 2011, Zoe was presented the “Ones To Watch” award by the DC Design Center. Zoe studied design at Parsons School of Design and worked for four years as a designer for Alexa Hampton at the premiere Manhattan based design firm, Mark Hampton, Inc. Currently, Zoe Feldman Design, Inc. is decorating houses in the Washington, DC Metro area, NYC, the Hamptons and South Florida.
Ryan Fous – Panelist
Ryan is the Creative Director and co-founder of Domestic Clothing Company. He holds a degree in International Affairs from the University of Colorado and then served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Swaziland. Due to his father’s career in the Foreign Service, he grew up abroad. During his time overseas, Ryan witnessed firsthand the impact that poor manufacturing practices and difficult working conditions have on a population. This is experience is why he is passionate about domestic manufacturing. Ryan joined the Domestic Clothing Company team in 2015 to develop the brand identity and establish a marketing strategy.
Brendan DeLuca – Panelist
Brendan DeLuca is the founder of Domestic Clothing Company. Graduating with a Finance degree from the Catholic University of America and an interest in manufacturing, Brendan was intrigued by the popularity of outsourcing of our manufacturing and the effect it was having on the United States. After seeing apparel manufacturing dwindle to 2%, he was inspired to see if he could create a men’s apparel brand to bring back Amercian manufacturing and American quality. After two years of sourcing and design, Domestic Clothing Company launched their first Oxford in 2016. Domestic Clothing Company is a driving force in the Made in USA movement and is fighting every inch to bring back American manufacturing.
Wafiqu Chowdhury – Panelist
Currently residing in NYC originally from the DC area where I formally worked for LVMH at the Louis Vuitton Flagship styling athletes and various VIP’s but then had the opportunity to follow my passion and step into the visual production industry, after working on smaller projects within the past 3 years I’ve currently only seen myself working on play makers through out this time I’ve produced on visuals for brands like Nike to Gucci. While producing videos I reflected back on my youth of traveling to Bangladesh every summer and spending days on ends in our massive full compliant factories, so I thought to myself…. I know theres a way I can bridge this gap between the two industries. Flash forward I realized I could potentially connect certain brands to visit our facilities in potential hopes of manufacturing together, and here we are today working on knitwear programs globally with an array of house hold brands such as Calvin Klein Uniqlo etc., with companies like Adidas & Asos.
