On Tuesday, March 21st an amazing group of creative professionals enjoyed thought provoking conversations at Cocktails & Conversations at Locale Workspace. FGIDC Director Robin Fisher and the 2017-2018 board greeted all the influencers and guests as they arrived. On Tuesday, February 7 2016, The Fashion Group International® of Greater Washington, DC, Inc. (FGIDC) hosted the Impact of Trends Spring/Summer 2017 presentation and business workshop. The discussion was all about exploring how to keep your business current and competitive while translating and implementing the international runway trends. Our speakers represented retail (Theresa Watts – Lettie Gooch), Design (Sophie Blake – Sophie Blake NY), and Beauty (Jeff Enriquez – Makeup Machine). The guests received insider industry knowledge on everything from the process of reviewing and breaking down the shows, to some of the challenges a creative faces when the market is just not ready for a trend!

It is often said that fashion and Washington, DC do not belong in the same sentence. On Thursday, December 1st, the Fashion Group International(R) of Greater Washington, DC Region hosted their biennial Rising Star awards event honoring Washington, DC’s emerging talent at Kimpton Mason & Rook Hotel.
Almost a 100 of Washington’s most fashionable people showed up to celebrate the honorees and to toast the industry at the awards reception. FGIDC’s 2016 Rising Stars were honored in the categories of Womenwear, Menswear, Jewelry and Accessories, Beauty Professionals, Beauty Products, Fashion Photography, Interiors, New Media, and Styling.
The Rising Star Awards in DC were presented by industry leaders. After presentations of awards, DJ CYD rocked the well-heeled crowd while they enjoyed cocktails and hors d’oeuvres from Kimpton Mason & Rook.

On Tuesday, November 15, 2016 FGIDC hosted their second MEN IN MOTION talk at the Saks Fifth Avenue Men’s Store in Chevy Chase. The talk was paired off with whiskey tasting, snacks, and coffee tasting from Organo. Additionally, over $200 worth of swag that each attendee received from Grooming Lounge, Whiskey Ginger, Switchwood, and Saks Fifth Avenue.
A panel discussion with some of the top leading men in the industry followed, which was, moderated Timothy Lowery, General Manager of CityCenterDC. The panel consisted of Omar Aboudi, Brand Manager of Isaia; Jordan Jackson, Designer Men’s Apparel for Under Armour; Tamon George, Co-Founder of the Creative Theory; and Wafiqu Chowdhury, Garment Manufacturer for Global Garment Sourcing Partners. Question after question from the 60+ attendees indicated FGI struck a chord with the men’s fashion & lifestyle community. There was a real hunger for conversation and action when it came to the needs of the men’s lifestyle sector. Omar Aboudi and Tamon George spoke to the influence that men have in the men’s fashion industry and that “men need a reference point” because they generally don’t follow trends as fast as women. Jordan Jackson also found interesting that his market likes to post and share their outfits on social media. When asked by Timothy Lowery “what is one thing you want everyone to leave with” Wafiqu responded “do you! Do what makes you feel confident and exudes your personal taste.”
On Tuesday, October 18, over 70 fashion professionals enjoyed lively conversations at Cocktails & Conversations at Pinstripes in Georgetown. FGIDC Director Elaine Mensah introduced the evening’s featured members: Robin Fisher, Polished Image & Style; Spencer Hurd, Whiskey Ginger; Debra Fabian, Debra Fabian Designs; Maurisa Potts, Spotted MP; Stara Pezeshkian, Stara Glam; Heather Femia, DJ Heather Femia; and Afua Sam, Studio D’Maxsi Designs. FGIDC members and prospective members sipped their libations, discussed landscape changing ideas and chatted about possible partnerships with fellow industry professionals.
